The Moon

Writer's picture: asteriaastrologyasteriaastrology

The Moon is one of the two most important bodies we observe in astrology, which we call the Luminaries. The other one is the Sun.

Together they form the basis of human character - basic male and female archetypes. While the Sun is the active principle - will, spirit, consciousness, and man; the Moon is the passive - soul, emotions, subconscious, and woman. Therefore, it is the most important planet in female charts, and it is a crucial factor in any close emotional relationship.

The Moon rules the sign of Cancer and represents all the women in our lives: grandmothers, mothers, wives, and those who take care of, nurture, nourish and protect. It is a symbol of feminine strength, intuition, changeability, fertility, motherhood, creation, home, family, roots, past, heritage, memories, childhood, intimacy, and emotions in general.

In a birth chart, the Moon tells us about one's emotional reactions and need for security. It shows us where one seeks safety and shelter. Where they build a home and a safe harbor. By analyzing the Moon, we discover what is crucial for a person to feel satisfied and fulfilled within. It also describes the way emotions are expressed and how one deals with close and family relationships.

Because it represents our most sensitive parts, we experience tense aspects between the Moon and tough planets very stressfully. Those are undesirable in any kind of partnership if you strive for peaceful and happy relationships. Venus and Jupiter have beneficial effects on the Moon, even in tense aspects, and apart from squares and oppositions, Mars can also work well with it, because together they generate strength and passion.
